My Favorite Natural Skincare Products: Natura Culina

Happy Sunday, friends! I hope you’ve had a beautiful weekend so far. Today has been windy but incredibly sunny here in Detroit and I’m loving it!

I wanted to take some time to do a deeper dive into a brand that I have been using for the last few years and that I sincerely love and believe in: Natura Culina.

If you’re unfamiliar with NC, they are a skincare brand based out of Santa Barbara, CA and they have absolutely incredible natural and organic products for your face, body and soul.  Here’s a bit about the brand, straight from the owner, Lenka:

Here at Natura Culina we believe in the healing power of plants for the skin and body. Green, clean, and simple; each of our organic skincare products protect and nourish the skin with vitamins and age-defying antioxidants with NO parabens, paba or phthalates. Our goal is to provide you with products designed to leave you feeling good in your skin, so you can be your best self inside and out. Trust in the healing power of plants. Enhance your strength, beauty, and badass self.

How great is that?

I first stumbled upon Natura Culina a couple of years ago when I was searching for a new skincare system to start the process of healing my acne as safely and naturally as possible. My acne has gotten progressively worse in my adult life and because of that, I really started to educate myself on all of the chemicals and toxins in the products that are currently available by many big-name brands. One of the things that I love about the Natura Culina brand and Lenka is that she is acutely aware of how complicated the skincare and beauty industries have become with long ingredients lists and things that you can’t pronounce on a seemingly “good” bottle of face wash. It quickly became a priority for Lenka to use all natural, organic ingredients when and where she could her products. And if for some reason she can’t, she clearly states why and exactly what ingredients are being used.

I want to walk you through a few of NC’s products that have been staples in my skincare routine for the last couple of years that I believe can work on any skin type, and then, if you have acne like I do, I want to share more information on the Botanical line, designed specifically for acne-prone skin.

1. Lavender Foaming Face Wash

What’s great about this face wash is that with lavender oil and and coconut oil as the two base ingredients, it’s suitable for all skin types. Among many other benefits, coconut oil is a wonderful moisturizer and also has antibacterial properties which help with skin conditions like eczema and acne. Lavender calms the skin and is relaxing to the body. The full ingredient list in this face wash includes: Certified Organic Saponified Virgin Coconut Oil and Lavender Essential Oil. I typically use this product twice a day, once in the morning and once at night.

2. Rose Facial Mist

I love that Lenka calls this the “grown up version of running through a sprinkler on a summer day.” Rose water makes a great toner for all skin types and it’s also incredibly hydrating and nourishing to our skin. This face mist is made from 100% pure certified organic Rose Water and I use this immediately after I’ve washed and dried my face. The only ingredient in this product is 100% pure certified organic Rose Water.

3. Rose Face Oil

Oils are all over the market today, but what sets Natura Culina’s Rose Face oil apart is that not only is it great for reducing inflammation and redness on the skin, it contains Rosehip Seed Oil, Calendula Flower Oil, Rose Essential Oil, and Vitamin E, all of which are beneficial for anti-aging. My skin is pretty oily as it is, so I typically only use this one time per day, usually in the morning as moisturizer.

4. Hibiscus E Eye Serum

Oh my gosh, you guys. This is hands-down one of my favorite Natura Culina products.  As Lenka states on her site, the hibiscus plant has been know as “nature’s botox plant” as hibiscus is rich in anti-aging alphahydroxy and amino acids. Along with hibiscus, this eye serum also contains Vitamin E, Frankincense, Myrrh and Chamomile essential oils, Chamomile and Coffee Bean which helps fight wrinkles and help combat swelling and under eye circles. This is awesome to use first thing in the morning to help relieve puffy eyes. Pro tip: keep this in your fridge and when you put this on your eyes in the morning, it is like MAGIC; super cooling and soothing.

5. Caracoco

I have four words for you: coconut oil and rosemary. This moisturizer contains Virgin Certified Organic Coconut Oil and Certified Organic Rosemary Essential Oil and smells like a DREAM. Like I mentioned before, coconut oil is an awesome moisturizer on its own, but when coupled with rosemary essential oil, it takes it to the next level. Rosemary oil helps with sore and stiff muscles, promotes blood circulation, helps relieve cramps and aches, etc. I have replaced my normal lotion moisturizer with this and I don’t think I’ll ever go back! Ladies, this feels SO good on your skin after you shave!

I’ve mentioned in previous posts my about my struggle with adult acne. Ever since junior high, I’ve had problematic skin and have been on everything under the sun since then: topical ointments, oral medications (including accutane three times)…nothing helped. Most recently, I’ve been dealing with a consistent breakout across my forehead that even with changes to my diet and supplements has not dissipated since first appearing back in October. So, I was really excited to discover Natura Culina’s Botanical line.

1. Botanical Foaming Face Wash

The combination of Lavender, Manuka and Tea Tree essential oils make this face wash great for problematic / acne-prone skin because of the oils anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. I’ve been using this face wash for about one week now and have already noticed a difference in the reduction of redness on my skin. I use this twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. The foam is really nice on my skin while also deeply cleaning my pores, removing impurities and excess oil which I l-o-v-e.

2. Botanical Facial Mist Lavandin Water

Lavandin is simply a variation of lavender, but with a much stronger aroma. Lavandin is known to work as an antidepressant and an antiseptic and is included in this line because it helps to treat oily and combination skin. I spray this on my skin after I have washed and dried my face.

3. Botanical Face Oil

This face oil includes combination of Lavender, Manuka and Tea Tree essential oils, just like the face wash, but goes a step further with  Jojoba Oil,  Tamanu and Calendula Flower Oil — the last two are known as “nature’s healers.” Just a few drops of this stuff go a long way. Once my skin has dried from the facial mist, I put a few drops of this oil on my fingertips and gently pat into my skin.

4. Botanical Face Mask Set

I love how clean and refreshed clay masks make my skin feel and this mask set is no exception. The combination of Witch Hazel and Fuller’s Earth and Bentonite Clay draw out impurities, excessive oils and toxins from the skin, leaving the skin brighter and less inflamed. So far, I’ve only used this mask twice (the recommended use is twice per week at night all over your face for 20 minutes or as a spot treatment overnight for stubborn acne) and each time I’ve used it, my skin has felt the immediate benefits. The full ingredient list includes: Botanical Witch Hazel (86% Witch Hazel*, 14% Organic Alcohol) and Clay Mask (Fuller’s Earth Clay, Bentonite Clay, Lavender, Manuka, Tea Tree Essential Oils).
